![]() SquareEnix has enough other avenues to do entirely original stories. (In fact, the Monsters games did it first bringing back DQ6's Terry.) Even if they don't have human characters, the DQ games are instantly recognizable by the reuse of common monsters like Slimes, Drackys, and Golems. DQB series, if it continues, will follow the framework set by the previous two Heroes and Builders games, where previously defined characters are worked into the game - the upcoming Treasures game follows this format as well. There's too much recognizition of previous game heroes and villians. I don't think spinoff series like DQB will ever be entirely original. ![]() ![]() ![]() Its placed into the DQ2 backstory and reuses Moonbrooke, but is otherwise original, and ultimately another "what-if" scenario like DQB1 was. I don't think its going to happen because the Japanese love their DQ3 and SquareEnix bows to Japanese demands with their RPGs while pretty much ignoring western input, but I think a DQB based on DQ4 (with or without a job system) would be much better than one based on DQ3 (with a job system.)ĭQB2 is also half original story. A much better alternative (in my opinion) is to skip DQ3 and go to DQ4 as the source, which has unquestionably the most recognizable set of heroes in the series. DQB3 based on DQ3 story would have to hit the job system hard and copy what's already been done with the entirety of DQ1 and the Moonbrooke chapter of DQ2 in revisiting familiar areas, but as far as characters crossing over its likely to be few if any. Thats pretty weak hero support compared to the DQ1 set of hero, Princess Gwaelin, the King of Tantegel, and Galen, or the DQ2 set of the three protagonists and the King of Moonbrooke. I suppose rivisting places like Romaly or Jipang would be nice, and building New Town seems like a natural fit, but other than the two big baddies who are they bringing into the game? Only two NPCs I can think of are Ruida/Patty and Jack of Alltrades, but they've shown up in multiple games since appearing in DQ3 first. DQ3's appeal is is job system and Earth-like world. The hero/heroine who becomes the first Erdrick is about it ont he hero's side, and the baddies Baramos and Zoma. I find DQ3 as a very poor game in which to follow with a Builders story, because theres very few memorable characters. There's also always a possibility of an original story, although that might entail more work. We've had remakes of IV through VIII in the recent years. Originally posted by Hiroshi Mishima:EDIT: For the record, a Builders 3 wouldn't have to follow the story of Dragon Quest 3. (In short, the announcement of DQ3 2D-HD was and remains bad news for all DQB3 fans in my opinion.) If DQ3 2D-HD doesn't launch until late 2022, I find it unlikely DQB3 would appear before 2024. With Triangle Strategy apparently sticking to its March release, this has pushed DQ3 2D-HD even further back so as not to look so pale in comparison. But the longer DQ3 2D-HD is delayed, the less likely DQB3 comes along on its heels. If DQ3 2D-HD had launched last fall as originally anticipated, then DQB3 could come along late this year or sometime next and not interfere. I'm beginning to doubt that would happen though: I think SquareEnix would want to see DQ3 2D-HD out and on its own for a while before DQB3 retells its story. The only way I see DQB3 arriving in 2023 is if a second-party (KoeiTecmo's Omega Force) takes on an even bigger role than they did with DQB2, freeing up SquareEnix to focus on their commitments. With nothing on horizon for the west they'll finally handle localization of DQX Offline at that time as well. My personal belief is that when Japanese staff finish those three, they'll focus on DQ12 with a small group possibly reworking DQ1 and DQ2 for 2D-HD. The DQ division at SquareEnix is already way behind on existing projects (DQX Offline, DQ Treasures, DQ III 2D-HD) that are expected to keep them occupied most of the year, with a DQ12 commitment already made for down the line (likely 2024.) Sometime in 2023 is a possibility, but its looking bleak. It'll almost certainly retain the same host-and-guests model as DQB2.ĭQB3 is most certainly not coming in 2022. If they weren't willing to supply servers in America, Europe, and Australia for Dragon Quest X Online anytime in the last 10 years, they are highly unlikely to supply such servers for a DQB3, especially if the forecast is for only 1 to 1.5 million sales worldwide (less than DQX's forecasts).
